The Group has also developed methodologies and tools for software engineering of real-time systems in which a mixture of soft and hard deadlines can be found. The tool that is currently being developed, called MAST, allows the design of a real-time system using a UML tool, modeling its real-time performance, and making the schedulability analysis automatically from the UML description.
The group is also actively participating in the development of the Real-time POSIX operating systems standards. The goal of this participation is to ensure that the standard supports those services that are required for the development of real-time systems with hard deadlines, based upon the results of current scheduling theory. As a result of this participation, several of the chapters of the latest real-time POSIX standards have been authored by members of the group. The group is currently developing a hard real-time kernel, called MaRTE OS , that is compliant with the POSIX minimum real-time system profile.
One important goal of the Group has always been to test the results of basic research in practical applications. As a consequence, the Group has participated since 1987 in industrial projects with Equipos Nucleares S.A. and Electra de Viesgo S.A.
